Description

A blue-level discovery trip, suitable for families from age 10, for 3h30 with a state-certified guide.
Canyoning in Gourbeyre: the Ravine Chaude and the Bassin Bleu
In southern Basse-Terre, on the slopes of La Soufrière, the Ravine Chaude runs down through the rainforest of the National Park. The route alternates abseils, natural slides and jumps, and ends in style in the Bassin Bleu: a clear-water pool, one of the most beautiful in the south of the island. Ravine Chaude and Bassin Bleu therefore refer to the same trip: the Bassin Bleu is its finale.
How the trip unfolds
- Welcome at the MonCanyon base in Saint-Claude, gear handed out (wetsuit, helmet, harness, lanyards, descender) and safety briefing.
- Descent of the Ravine Chaude: abseils, slides and optional jumps, in a canyon in the heart of the National Park.
- Finale in the Bassin Bleu, for one last swim.
Allow about 3h30, travel and gear included.
Who is it for?
Blue level: this is a discovery trip with no previous experience required. It is open from age 10, accompanied by an adult. You do not need to be able to swim, but you should not be afraid of water; average fitness is enough. For younger children, family canyoning at Acomat is open from age 8. To go further, the Rivière Noire and the Vauchelet waterfalls, in Saint-Claude, is the next step. All levels are explained on the canyoning levels page.
Access and meeting point
Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the MonCanyon base in Saint-Claude, in southern Basse-Terre: the same meeting point as for the Rivière Noire canyon. Exact directions are sent when you book.
Nearby sights
